On January 1, 1991, the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers consolidated, forming the Appraisal Institute (AI).  Individuals holding both the MAI and SRPA designations adopted only the MAI designation under the new organization.  The SRA designation was offered as an option to the SRPA designation.
